It’s a good question. One which you are probably loathed to answer. And yet it has been tabled; can you really escape it?
In A Course In Miracles, Jesus uses the word “hallucination” multiple times throughout the whole book. Just so we are all on the same page as to what an hallucination is:
hal·lu·ci·na·tion [huh-loo-suh-ney-shuh n] noun
1. a sensory experience of something that does not exist outside the mind, caused by various physical and mental disorders, or by reaction to certain toxic substances, and usually manifested as visual or auditory images.
2. the sensation caused by a hallucinatory condition or the object or scene visualized.
3.a false notion, belief, or impression; illusion; delusion.
1640–50; < Latin hallūcinātiōn- (stem of ( h ) allūcinātiō ) a wandering of the mind.
hal·lu·ci·na·tion·al, hal·lu·ci·na·tive [huh-loo-suh-ney-tiv, -nuh-tiv], adjective.
Can be confused: allusion, delusion, elusion, hallucination, illusion, illusion.
1. phantasm, aberration. See illusion.
Nice! So it’s pretty easy to see why He chose that particular word. But what are the REAL consequences of looking at the IDEA? I am going to give you the whole paragraph.
“What if you recognized this world is an hallucination? What if you really understood you made it up? What if you realized that those who seem to walk about in it, to sin and die, attack and murder and destroy themselves, are wholly unreal? Could you have faith in what you see, if you ACCEPTED this? And would you SEE it? Hallucinations disappear when they are recognized for what they are. This is the healing and the remedy. Believe them not, and they are gone. And all you need to do is recognize YOU did this. Once you accept this simple fact, and take unto yourself the power you GAVE them, YOU are released from them.”
Well, there you have it. The only thing you can do with that is reject it. Because to accept it, really accept it, would mean the disappearance of you and the world. A defensive mind will say “yeah but you must have rejected it too because your here!” Yet that is what A Course In Miracles is telling us…it’s an hallucination. It’s a SEEMING reality. This is the message I have been given to give. Nothing holds you in this dream, this hallucination. When you no longer find value and meaning in sickness, pain and death, it will not be there for you to see.
It is a required Course.
